Are you driven to create meaningful change in a world grappling with intersecting crises? Do you question whether justice, sustainability, and fulfillment are truly possible, or dismissed as utopian dreams?

Today's societal frameworks often leave us disillusioned, funnelling us into systems that prioritise extraction over equity, consumption over connection, and survival over purpose. From ecological collapse and entrenched inequality to hollow education and fractured relationships, our challenges are interconnected, urgent, and deeply personal. The post-industrial era has amplified these dilemmas, trapping even the privileged in cycles of materialism and existential emptiness. Yet, the hunger for solutions grows louder.

What if alternatives exist? What if the very systems that feed us—and fail us—could become a starting point for transformation?

In this edition of the workshop, we turn to food. The way we produce, distribute, consume, and dispose food sits at the heart of the metacrisis. Agriculture is both deeply affected by climate breakdown, economic inequality, and extractive capitalism, and is a significant driver of these very crises. But what if reimagining our relationship with food could help heal both people and the planet?

Together, we will build a foundational understanding of food systems, the interconnected web of practices, policies, and cultural norms that shape what ends up on our plates. We will critique exploitative models and map alternatives rooted in justice, regeneration, and aliveness. Through collaborative exploration, fieldwork, and reflective practice, you will be guided toward personal actions and a learning journey that aligns with your values and enquiry.

Join us to confront hard questions, rediscover agency, and explore whether food, something so fundamental to our daily lives, can be the starting point for moving from "what is" to "what could be."

The Alivelihoods and Alternatives in a World of Crises workshop helped me understand the broader problems we as a society are facing. I found the design leisurely yet full of important content that helped me deepen my understanding of possible alternatives. The facilitators were gentle, firm when necessary and full of energy. It was lovely to meet so many people from different backgrounds, hopes and pursuits. I leave with some clarity about what I want to do, and I leave with some sense of what I need to do to learn what I want to do. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.

Are you driven to create meaningful change in a world grappling with intersecting crises? Do you question whether justice, sustainability, and fulfillment are truly possible—or dismissed as utopian dreams? Today’s societal frameworks often leave us disillusioned, funneling us into systems that prioritise extraction over equity, consumption over connection, and survival over purpose. From ecological collapse and entrenched inequality to hollow education and fractured relationships, our challenges are interconnected, urgent, and deeply personal.

Yet, what if alternatives exist? What if we can reimagine livelihoods that nourish both people and the planet, or redesign systems that harmonise technology with ecological balance? How might we cultivate learning that fosters critical thinkers, not just jobseekers, or relationships rooted in empathy rather than conflict?

This workshop, “Alivelihoods & Alternatives in a World of Crises,” invites you to explore pathways beyond despair. Together, we will dissect the metacrisis—the tangled web of global emergencies—and envision alivelihoods that sustain individuals, communities, and ecosystems. We will critique exploitative models and map alternatives grounded in justice and regeneration. Through introspection inspired by The Hero’s Journey and collaborative design, you will craft a personal learning journey that aligns with your enquiry and values.

Join us to confront hard questions, rediscover agency, and co-create a future where meaning and sustainability are not ideals—but lived realities. Let us move from “what is” to “what could be.”
